Orchid maintenance?

I just bought 2 orchid plants, the other day. They still have their flowers and I have the feeling that the flowers will not last long. They are still in the plastic cup container they came from, but I put them in a pot, and when the water drains through of the cup and stays at the bottom of the pot. I want to know if you should only repot without the plastic cup. I will keep on my windowsill with the window broken. I live in Germany and so far has been a very mild summer. These are the first plants that I have made a commitment to, and I want to do well. Also, I'm going out of town for a couple of weeks, they be okay?

Orchids are very high maintenance. I live in southern California so my answers are based on a dry and mild climate most of the year. I keep my orchids to direct sunlight and water them once a week. I keep them in clay pots with trays. It is important to keep the soil moist. Let the water pond mud pan, as this adds moisture. Also fertilize orchids once a week with a fertilizer made specifically for orchids. The orchid flowers in my last two or three months. After the flowers fall, cut the stem right below the flower where it was located. You can continue to grow a new branch. Do not transplant their orchids. I love being crammed into small boats. After a few years, you may want to transplant. Go to an orchid nursery for the bark and soil. Be patient. Orchids are rewarding. When you go on vacation, I have a friend coming in the water once a week.
