What causes the underside of the leaves of an orchid that turn purple?
It is clearly a function of the plant, not a disease or external parasites, and is only a top sheet that is turning purple. It also seems that purple is more at night than during the day, and so is only the bottom of the leaf is purple, the upper part of the leaf is still green except on the edge where the sheet is thin enough to see through the purple.
so you say this is a function of the plant? if so, maybe it's just that certain species has these characteristics. How long ago did you purchase the plant? perhaps in the years just the other will turn purple also due to maturation. Do you know the species you are dealing? that would be of great help.
